Indonesia considered that the act of proclamation by Malaysia on 29 August 1963 before the announcement of plebiscite conducted by U.N. Secretary General as breach of faith.

Indonesia resumed its hostility towards the projected federation. During this period, as Mackie has written, it was the British rather than the Malaysians who attracted the main thrust of Indonesian hostility. The Indonesian political elite in general regarded the Malaysia scheme as a British plot to keep the five territories in a neo-colonial status, even after formal independence had been granted. This suspicion was intensified by the fact that the British continued to have military bases in Malaya and Singapore as well as held economic sway over both countries. The fact that the new Malaysia plan was actively supported by the British made it look highly neo-colonial in Jakarta. –> P. 24-27

Furthermore, Confrontation (Konfrontasi) may also contain other importance to tother countries aside of Indonesia personal agenda, such as Australia ( as heard in http://www.abc.net.au/radionational/programs/hindsight/konfrontasi/5147530 )
